Getting it running

  • Installing for the first time

    There is no installer to run separately and no store client to sign into. The launcher is the whole distribution path.

    1. Download the launcher from the official link on this page.
    2. Run the launcher.
    3. Let it install Starhauler — the launcher fetches the game files itself.
    4. Start the game from the launcher when it reports the install is finished.

  • Keeping the game up to date

    Download the launcher once. Opening it is how you play, and it is also how you stay current — as new builds are released the launcher brings the installed game up to them, so there is no second download to go looking for.

  • If Windows or your browser warns you about the download

    Expect this, at least for now. The launcher is downloaded directly from Deep Sky Creations rather than through a store, and it is new enough that Windows SmartScreen and some browsers have not seen it often enough to recognise it. That warning is a reputation signal — it means the file is unfamiliar, not that anything was detected in it. The one thing worth doing is checking that the download actually came from the official link on this page before you decide; if you would rather not run an unrecognised app, that is a completely reasonable call, and writing to the studio is the better move.

Common questions

Is Starhauler on Steam or any other store?
No. The launcher linked on this page is the only official way to get Starhauler. There is no Steam page, no key reseller and no other storefront — anything claiming otherwise is not the studio.
Which platforms does it run on?
Windows. No macOS or Linux build has been announced.
It says Early Access — what does that mean here?
That the game is downloadable and playable today, and still being actively developed: new systems, missions, materials and polish arrive over time. It does not mean Steam Early Access — the studio does not distribute through Steam at all, so none of that programme's rules or refund terms apply.
