Ultimate Emulator / Feature guide
The Workbench Behind the Experience
Create, modify, test and preserve.
Workshop is an expanding advanced-tool area for players who want to go further: play translations and fixes without touching the original game, and study how a game works from the inside. It is part of Ultimate Emulator Premium. You never need it to play — it is there when you want it.

01 / More than a settings screen
A workbench for your games.
Choose Workshop in the left navigation. Everything in it is organized around projects. Workshop needs Premium; without it, the Workshop destination is locked.
Start a project
A project belongs to one game in your library and keeps its patches, research and captures together.
ProjectsPlay a patched game
Apply an IPS or UPS patch — a translation, fix, mod or randomizer — as a separate playable copy.
Patch a gameLook inside
Find the values a game keeps in memory, record known moments and compare what changed.
Research workflow02 / Where work begins
Every project, one game.
Open My Projects to see your work. Create Project starts a research project for a game; Patch Game starts a project for playing patches.
- One game, one project
- A project is tied to a game in your library and the exact version of it you have. Research recorded for one version is never copied to another.
- Your files stay yours
- Workshop reads the game in your library; it never changes it. Projects hold your own work, not copies of game content.
03 / Translations, fixes, mods
Play a patch. Keep the original.
Fan translations, bug fixes and hacks are often distributed as patch files. Workshop applies them to a copy of a game you own and checks the result before it can be played.
-
Choose Patch Game
In Workshop, choose Patch Game and pick the game the patch was made for.
-
Add the patch
Choose Add Patch and select an IPS or UPS file. It is checked against your game before it is added, so a patch made for a different version is turned away with an explanation.
-
Build & Play
Workshop builds a separate copy with the patch applied, verifies it, then starts it. Failed builds are never kept.
-
Play it from your library
The patched game appears on the original game's details page under Game Variants. Choose Play Variant.
04 / Inspector · Captures · Analyze
Understand how a game works.
The research tools work together on a project's game while it runs. They are aimed at modders, preservationists and the curious, and the language is more technical by necessity.
-
Inspector: find a value
Enter a value you can see in the game — lives, health, a score — and choose Start Search. Change it in the game, then Refine until only a few memory addresses remain. Keep the ones that matter as watches.
-
Captures: record known moments
Capture before, play the moment, capture after. A capture stores your watches' values with a label you choose — never game memory or game content.
-
Analyze: see what changed
Choose two captures and Analyze compares them to show which values changed. Compare captures made from the same game version and engine.
-
Game Adapter: give it meaning
Promote what you found into named variables and events, such as a battle starting, then validate them against your recorded captures.
05 / Early
Room for more tools.
Tools is an early area for adding local editors and utilities to Workshop. A tool you add is kept isolated and stays disabled until you review and enable it. Nothing is downloaded for you.
07 / Get back to work
When a project gets stuck.
My patch was not added.
It was made for a different version of the game. Check the patch's notes for the version or checksum it expects and use that version of your game. Your project and original game are unchanged.
The build failed.
The patched result was not a valid game, or it did not match what the patch promised, so it was not made playable. Check the patch order and version, then build again. Play Previous Build still plays the last verified build.
Inspector says there is nothing to search.
Memory search reads the running game. Start the project's own game first. Some systems' engines do not offer their memory to Workshop yet.
Analyze shows no changes.
Compare captures recorded from the same game version and engine, and make sure your watches are enabled in the Inspector before capturing.
I received a patch from someone, but no game came with it.
That is by design. Shared patches never include the game. Use your own copy of the game the patch was made for.
