Atari 5200

An analog stick and a keypad, for up to four players.

RazorA5200 plays standard Atari 5200 cartridges with the analog stick, both fire buttons and the keypad, for up to four players on one PC. It needs the console's BIOS, which you provide. Support is experimental, so some cartridges will not run yet.

01 / Current support

Where Atari 5200 stands today.

Status describes the core, not every game. Compatibility is always title-dependent.

Experimental
Included with limited coverage.
Core
RazorA5200, a first-party core included with Ultimate Emulator. It is chosen automatically for Atari 5200 games.
Unrated
No comparable per-core performance rating is claimed.
Release note
BIOS required. Standard unbanked cartridges only; no PAL.

02 / Your collection

The files it plays.

These are the Atari 5200 game files RazorA5200 opens. Ultimate Emulator does not supply games; add them from your own collection.

Game files

  • .a52
  • .car

03 / Firmware & BIOS

A BIOS you provide.

Atari 5200 games cannot start until its BIOS is added. You add it once, and Systems shows Ready.

Required
One file: the console's 2 KiB BIOS. Ultimate Emulator ships none. It checks the file's size, but not its revision.
  1. Open Manage BIOS

In Systems, select Atari 5200 and choose Manage BIOS. Its firmware page lists each file the system uses and whether it is required.

  2. Choose the file you own

Check What file do I need?, then use Choose BIOS File, or Choose Firmware Folder if you keep your firmware together.

04 / Input

How it plays in your hands.

Connect a controller and it is mapped automatically. Change the layout for every game, for this system only, or for a single game in Settings → Controllers.

Atari 5200 in Ultimate Emulator

  • Up to four controllers, each with the analog stick, two fire buttons, Start, Pause, Reset and the 12-key keypad.
  • On a gamepad the left stick is the analog stick. The keypad has no gamepad default: use the keyboard's number row, or map it in Settings → Controllers.

05 / Picture

The original picture, on a modern screen.

Atari 5200 keeps its own picture: drawn at its original resolution and scaled to your window in the shape the console made.

Resolution
Drawn at its original resolution and scaled to fit your window, keeping the system's own pixel shape.
Graphics settings
Not offered for Atari 5200 yet. Integer Scale, cropping, pixel filtering and effects in Settings → Graphics apply to the other included systems.

06 / Your progress

In-game saves and save states.

The game's own

In-game saves

  • Atari 5200 cartridges have no save memory, so there are no in-game saves to keep.
Ultimate Emulator

Save states

  • Not available with this core.

Rewind is not integrated with this core.

07 / Play together

Together on one PC.

A system profile does not make a single-player game multiplayer. The game decides how many can play.

On one PC
Up to 4 players, one controller each, in games made for more than one player. No account needed.
Across PCs
Not available. This system is local only.

08 / Honest compatibility

What to know before you play.

Current limits of the included core, as of this release.

Known limitations

  • Bank-switched and larger cartridges are not supported.
  • PAL games are not supported.
Region
NTSC only. PAL games are not supported.
